Touching: A Research Method in Art and DesignDIS_SEMINAR, Fort de Batterijen, November 2022
In TOUCHING: A Research Method in Art and Design, I explored the act of touch not just as a means of acquiring knowledge, but as a more tentative, exploratory process—approaching material creation in a ritualistic manner, one which encourages tactile knowledge and alternative ways of understanding. This investigation is part of a broader dialogue on material research, where the tactile, intimate act of engagement with materials becomes a method of both inquiry and discovery.

As featured in this publication, my research methods, along with recipes and guidelines for creating bioplastics, reflects the importance of tactile experiences in regards to material creation and exploration. Compiled with contributions from tutors, workshop instructors, and students across the KABK (Royal Academy of Art) community, the book embraces the idea that knowledge is not only conceptual but also tactile, formed through direct, embodied interaction with materials. Whether addressing urgent societal issues or the enduring questions surrounding human relationships with the environment, this publication offers the tools and inspiration needed to adapt and expand on material research in your own practice.

The publication was presented at DIS_SEMINAR and alongside this I presented a bioplastic cooking worskhop explaning how the sense of touch affects my material explorations. Read the publicationg here.
